I thoroughly enjoyed the story of Mei Mei and brother. I would recommend it for young and old alike. I especially liked the true to life feel of it. I love how this blended family works. The mix of humor and mystery works for me. And I hope there's a second book in the works, I want more of these fun characters.

This book hooked me with its originality and suspense from the very first chapter. It was heartwarming to see the relationship between Brother and Mei develop and change. I enjoyed the fact that even though I grew up very differently; there were ways I could relate to each character. I am passing it on to my 12 year old daughter after my husband reads it. My favorite aspect of the book was that Brother and his friends (or chosen family) taught Mei both personal boundaries to set with others and her own actions. It was very encouraging. This story also took me through both the highs and lows of real life. Life is messy and it was interesting to see how they dealt with the good, the bad and the ugly together. I thought it seemed very realistic and I found myself easily picturing the scenes, smells and sounds. At the end of each chapter, I always wanted to know what happens next and found it hard to set down. I can recommend this book for all ages.

It was a pleasure to read this story. It takes you into the world of a child lost in the foster care system. Every new home full of new people, new rules, and unknown fears; until she discovers that she has her own strengths and people that she can call family. The author does a wonderful job of portraying the main character’s feelings in each situation and takes you along with her. You will laugh, you will cry, you will jump up and cheer for Mei.

Meet the extended family of friends who stand behind them to guide, protect, and share their collective wisdom. Meet the Mastiff, Boudicca, who is a clutzy, clumsy puppy, but becomes the anchor for Mei and the Big Man as they take their first steps on this new path as they all begin a new life together.
